2. John2 Varick (Abraham1) (#1419) was born Hackensack, New Jersey December 25, 1723.

He married Jane Dey in Schraalenburg, Bergen, New Jersey, June 15, 1749. Dutch Reformed Church. (Jane Dey is #1418.)

Jane was born Lower Preakness, Bergen, NJ January 29, 1728. Jane was the daughter of Dirck Dey and Jeanne Blanchard. Jane died April 11, 1810 at 82 years of age. She was christened Acquackanonk, NJ, February 25, 1728. At 25 years of age Jane became the mother of Colonel Richard Varick Hackensack, New Jersey, March 25, 1753.

At 29 years of age John became the father of Colonel Richard Varick Hackensack, New Jersey, March 25, 1753.

John Varick and Jane Dey had the following child:

child 3 i. Colonel Richard3 Varick (#4630) was born Hackensack, New Jersey March 25, 1753. Colonel died July 30, 1831 Jersey City, New Jersey, at 78 years of age. SENECA FARMER and SENECA FALLS ADVERTISER August 31, 1831 DIED Col. RIchard Varick died Saturday night at Jersey City, aged 79. At the beginning of the Revolution he was the Military Secretary to George Schuyler and afterward Aide to Gen. Arnold. Though he was not suspected of treason and Arnold acquitted him of any in a letter to Washington, he was at his own request tried by court martial which acquitted him. He officiated for a time as Inspector General at West Point and was at the battles of Stillwater and Saratoga. He married Maria Roosevelt New York, New York, May 08, 1786. Dutch Reformed Church. Maria was born August 05, 1753. Maria was the daughter of Isaac Roosevelt and Cornelia Hoofman. Maria died July 19, 1841 New York City, New York, at 87 years of age.

He was baptized April 01, 1753. Religion: religion unknown. Witnesses were Teunis Dey and wife. According to Lossing Field Book of the Revolution, Varick entered the US Army in 1775 as Captain of the McDougall Regiment, First Continental Infantry. He became General Phillip Schuyler's Military Secretary until 1777 when he recieved the rank of Colonel. He was made Inspector General at West Point and became Washington's Recording Secretary after Arnold's treason. After the war he became Attorney General of New York State and was Mayor of New York City for twelve years.
