DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Anne Marie Falato and Lauren Beirne accepting the award

The distinguished community service award is present to an organization which has performed an outstanding service on behalf of the ARC and people with developmental disabilities. this year the aware is shared by two groups from Hackensack High School, The National Honor Society and the Interact Club. This combined group of thirty-three students provided great assistance with the ARCS 50th anniversary capital campaign Phon-A-Thon conducted earlier this year.

Although carrying full academic schedules and participating in various other school projects, and, in some cases, even holding part-time jobs, they gave of their time and talents to help the ARC raise funds for projects that will benefit consumers in the 21st Century.

This was a new experience for most of them, but they learned quickly, and were tireless and professional in conducting over 2,000 telephone calls.

As a result of their outstanding efforts, the ARC was able to raise in excess of $40,000 toward development of our important new projects. These young people deserve a great deal of thanks as does Ms. Lisa Bernardo, their staff advisor whose coordination helped to make the effort so effective. The ARC is pleased to designate the Hackensack National Honor Society and the Interact Club as our Distinguished Community Service Award Recipients for this year.
